Music creates bridges and understanding. Music speaks the universal language of humanity and unites us. Canvas Lab proudly hosts leaders from Refugee Songs: A Musical Journey and We Met Through a Song to talk about their projects and perform samples. Host and moderator Lynn Hutchinson discusses music’s continued role in advancing humanity.

In recent years, classic children's programs Sesame Street and Mister Roger's Neighborhood have come into the spotlight. Not only have they have given us great stories, they've given us incredible songs. Bring the whole family in the afternoon or come by yourself in the evening for this special event celebrating the music of PBS in the 1970s and the power of song in our childhoods.

NOTE: We are offering a young child-oriented version of this Lab program in the afternoon, lasting only 45 minutes. The evening show is intended for adults and older children.

Music and storytelling have a unique relationship: discord, resolution, build up and surprise are elements shared. And there’s no better example than that of the ghost story. Songs That Go Bump in the Night is a new show featuring the winning entry from our first ghost story writing contest with a discussion about how music sounds scary. Appropriate for older children.

Music in December is many things: The soundtrack to a lit menorah. A welcome for Saint Nick. Solace for a broken heart. Praise to a King. Overture to romance. Reverence for winter. Nostalgia for home. This special holiday Canvas explores the role of home in traditions and the music of the season. Candlelight and warmth abound.
