What are the biggest challenges a composer faces in putting multiple pianos together?

What is the compositional style of John Adams’ Hallelujah Junction?

How many total keys are there: two modern grand pianos plus one 1887 Steinway?

The piano has the widest range of all instruments. Played by two hands, pianists can produce many different musical elements at once. Because of this, they are often in the position of accompanying singers and instrumentalists. So what happens when accomplished accompanists accompany each other?

Heart and Soul featured repertoire new and old for multiple pianos, including John Adams’ powerhouse “Hallelujah Junction” and the world premiere of “Trichotomy: Piece for 2 Pianos and 63 Cell Phones.” A fundraising concert for the Music Program at Hearts of Los Angeles (HOLA) - featuring HOLA almuna Michelle Kweon, proceeds bought 13 new music stands for the HOLA orchestra.

Los Angeles piano dealer Keyboard Concepts generously loaned Canvas a Yamaha grand piano for this unique Lab program.

Featured pianists Jeremy Frank (assistant conductor, Los Angeles Opera) and Michelle Kweon share a laugh before the Lab begins.
